Myrid rolled over with a sigh, snuggling against AIBL-K42. "You awake, hon?"
AIBL groaned and one optic blinked to life. "I wasn't."
"Sorry." Myrid shot him a grin. "I can't sleep." She shifted so she was resting atop his sleek metal body. "You in the mood?" she asked lazily, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Not really," he admitted, his screen showing a sheepish grin.
"It was worth a shot." She snuggled up to him, pressing her forehead against the top of his screen.
AIBL's expression turned thoughtful, his smile fading. "Myrid, can I ask you something?"
"Sure," Myrid replied, looking slightly surprised. "What is it?"
"Well, I…" AIBL began softly, not meeting her eyes, "I…I wonder if you wouldn't be happier with someone more…like you. I mean—" he continued, spreading his arms wide, "Just look at me! Look at what I am."
Myrid blinked. "AIBL, I love you."
"But Myrid," he sighed, running a hand through her hair and gazing at her reverently, "I'm not your equal. You know we can't even go on a date without getting dirty looks."
Myrid sighed, leaning forward to plant a kiss on the top of AIBL's head. "Darling, you are the most amazing man I've ever met. No—" she put a finger to the digital lips on his screen before he could speak, "—You are a man. You are as human as I, no matter what our society may say."
AIBL let out a soft buzzing noise. "Myrid, I love you."
She held the robot close. "I love you, too."

Oh my gosh! This is... Like, my favorite short story EVAH. It was to the point, yet sweet and emotional... You know... You should write a book. You should! Write a book about this!!
